The Jason Meyers Memorial Foundation was started after the suicide death of Jason R. Meyers (31 yrs. old) on 11/18/2007. The foundation’s main goal is to fund education activities that will help young adults and teenagers to understand depression and thoughts of suicide that they or a friend may have, which ultimately will help prevent suicide.

KNOW RESOLVE

KnowResolve is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting mental health and reducing youth suicides through outreach, advocacy and education. Our goals are to increase help-seeking behavior, connect teens and young adults to available resources, promote the development of healthy coping skills and promote relationship-building among students.

AFSP

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leader in the fight against suicide. We fund research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Led by CEO Robert Gebbia and headquartered in New York, AFSP has 67 local chapters with programs and events nationwide.

History of suicidal thoughts or attempts Family history (of suicide, attempts, or psychiatric disorders)

Warning Signs

Frequent talk or threats about suicide and/or death Suicidal Plans (such as seeking access to a firearm, pills or other means, giving away prized possessions) Observable Signs of Suicidal Depression (Constant anxiety, unrelenting low mood; Feelings of: hopelessness, pessimism, desperation, being trapped) Withdrawal from friends, family and society Sleep problems (too much or not enough) Previous attempts Increased alcohol / drug use Self-destructive, impulsive, risky behavior Unexpected rage or anger Dramatic mood changes

In 2013 more than 40,000 people died by suicide. A person dies by suicide about every 13 minutes in the United States. Suicide is the THIRD leading cause of death among youth ages 15-24. Approximately 1 in 7 high school students seriously consider suicide.
